The ongoing war on Gaza has also seeped into the West Bank, triggering a growing surge in violence and bombardment, particularly in the Jenin Governorate.
Jenin has witnessed major damages made to civil infrastructure including roads, residential areas and refugee camps following a recent large-scale military operation. The Jenin Refugee Camp has fallen into a deeper need for humanitarian assistance, with the UN’s OCHA reporting more than 1,000 families in this province alone have been displaced into various parts of the region.
This operation, which was the longest in the West Bank since 2002, had resulted in a death toll of 36 people including children and elderly according to OCHA.
According to UN sources, between October 2023 and September 2024, the total number of Palestinian civilian deaths in the West Bank had reached 652. Within this same timeframe, over 1,450 Palestinian structures in the West Bank have been destroyed, demolished or confiscated which ultimately displaced over 3,400 families overall. These demolitions include over 500 inhabited structures, more than 300 agricultural structures and over 100 water and sanitation structures amongst others.
The devastating impact of these demolitions falls on the thousands of families facing imminent displacement and a lack of adequate resources.
“They need water, food, baby formula, medicine, and other essential services and supplies” OCHA has emphasised in their latest updates.
