Human Appeal International Australia hosted its 10th Annual Year 12 Muslim Achievement Awards in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane over the weekend. Year 12 students who achieved an ATAR score or equivalent of 90% or more in 2016 were invited to register for the awards. Various respected members of the community, school principals, politicians and businesses attended ceremonies in the four cities. An incredible one hundred and eighty-nine recipients, fifty-four more than last year, were honoured for their hard work and awarded certificates of recognition, tablet-notebooks and various other prizes.

Human Appeal International Australia (HAIA) in conjunction with Deen Academy (DA) hosted a group of young Muslim Australians for its third annual Aspiring Leaders Umrah Tour of four countries – Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey and UAE. The tour took place from 3 to 22 February 2017, comprising fifteen participants from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and for the first time Brisbane. The group of young university students and graduates were led and mentored by Bashar Al-Jamal, director of HAIA and Dr Zac Matthews from DA.
Somalia Emergency Appeal 2017
Somalia is facing a catastrophic situation, the drought and rising living costs are threatening the lives of more than 6 million people in Somalia, facing food shortages and skyrocketing prices. the drought caused widespread hunger, and the shortage of clean water has resulted in cholera. International support to alleviate Somalia’s worsening hunger crisis is extremely required.
The violent uprising that has been occurring in Myanmar has left destruction everywhere in its wake. The ethnic cleansing occurring in the country that has targeted the Rohingya population is forcing its people to abandon their homes making them displaced within their country and many more seeking refuge elsewhere.
Since October 2016, over 150,000 Rohingya refugees have fled to neighbouring countries to escape the violence.
Entire villages are being burned to the ground. HAIA’s team is on the ground and has delivered food aid to over 6000 people. Public sanitation and water facilities have been funded to serve the refugee camps. And two schools will be built to provide education to primary school children.
The people of Australia have proved once again that they can be counted upon when they are needed the most as Human Appeal International Australia held the first ever fundraiser on Facebook Live and the Voice of Islam Radio for the people of Aleppo. Starting with a smooth afternoon at 6pm on Friday the 16th of December, Human Appeal's Project Manager, Issam Chaouk along with community figure Steve Dabliz & Hussin Goss - the President of Islamic Society Gold Coast, ensured they held a vibrant discussion with radio host Abrahim Zoabi & Rania Barjawi, describing the current situation facing the people of Aleppo.
